Crafted by the team behind the #1 hearing test app, this extension tunes sound to your unique hearing. Whether you're an audiophile, deal with hearing impairment or seek richer audio, experience full-range frequencies and details without increasing volume.
I am proud to have worked on this product! I believe it has potential to improve the experience of many people. Working with Chrome APIs is definitely a challenge and their documentation could be much better. We had to figure out what is allowed or not allowed via trial and error.

Way back in 2012 before founding Mimi Hearing technologies, I was experimenting with (the now discontinued) Google Native Client as a method of performing the number crunching required for real-time audio DSP in the browser. The goal was to make an accessibility tool for people with different forms of hearing limitations to understand their content a little better, or help them to reduce the listening effort somewhat. The implementations that I was experimenting with back then were a little clumsy. How would it be delivered to the user? Maybe a kind of proxy site where users could paste a link to a video they wanted to hear better? I canāt remember all of the technical details now, but capturing audio streams and then manipulating them and replaying them from within a browser was tricky to say the least, and would have involved many clunky steps for the user. Fast forward to now and we have the modern and stable Web Audio API for handling audio streams, and all of the advances in web assembly (WASM) and the tooling that goes along with it to make the number-crunching possible. This all allows us to make a much more seamless tool that helps unobtrusively in the background. What I couldnāt have envisioned so clearly a decade ago was where Mimi would be today. With all of Mimiās expertise in hearing testing, parameter fitting to unique hearing capabilities, and the ability to log this plugin into our ecosystem, we can really give the best possible individually tailored experience for consuming audio content on the web. Iām proud of all of the professionals on the team who managed to deliver this and am overjoyed at seeing it become a reality. I canāt wait to discover how people end up using it and the value it brings.
